Children are often at greater risk for developing cavities and other dental problems, making regular dental checkups for infants and toddlers incredibly important. Dr. Bradley Austin provides annual checkups for toddlers to monitor their oral health and ensure that their teeth and gums remain free from tooth decay and other oral problems. We invite you to call Austin Dental Associates at 651-777-0788 to learn more and schedule your child’s annual checkup with our dentist in Maplewood, Minnesota.
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children begin visiting the dentist within six months of when their first tooth erupts. During this initial visit, the dentist helps your child feel comfortable in the office, and establishes a “dental home” for your child. The dentist and team will review your child’s health history, and discuss his or her oral habits, development, and diet. They will also provide recommendations on care for your child’s teeth and preventing oral injuries, and address any questions or concerns you may have.
After this initial appointment, a schedule for regular dental visits will be created. Keeping to this schedule of checkups ensures that your child’s oral health and development will be closely monitored and that any problems that may arise can be diagnosed and treated quickly. This is especially important through the toddler years, as children are not yet old enough to adequately care for their own teeth.
